RAW HERBS
Raw herbs are the whole plant, nothing added and nothing taken out. It may be that the medicine is from one part of the plant, for example the roots but it will be the whole root powdered or made into a tincture. The herbs could be offered in original raw herb form, or fine powder form, or herbal capsule form. Modern pharmaceuticals had their origins in crude herbal medicines, and to this day, some drugs are still extracted as fractionate/isolate compounds from raw herbs and then purified to meet pharmaceutical standards.
Galangal Roots
Galangal has a tighter skin, is lighter in color and can have pinkish portions too. Galangal is commonly used as a seasoning ingredient in Thai food, many seafood and meat dishes use galangal for seasoning. There are two ways in which galangal is added to food dishes, one is the crushed form and the other is thin strips. Before you start using galangal, you will always need to peel it and take off the top layer. If the recipe you are making needs the galangal to be crushed, slice it first and then do the crushing. This is because galangal is much more dense and harder than ginger.
Psyllium Husk
Psyllium seed husk are indigestible and are a source of soluble dietary fiber. They are used to relieve constipation, irritable bowel syndrome, and diarrhea. They are also used as a regular dietary supplement to improve and maintain regular GI transit. The inert bulk of the husks helps provide a constant volume of solid material irrespective of other aspects of the diet or any disease condition of the gut.
Senna Leaves

Stone plant is small shrub that normally grows on the rocks and sometimes looks like a combination of algae and fungus. Stone plant contains lecanoric acid and alkaloid called atranorin. Lichens are used as fodder in Indian states and also have various culinary uses.
Zedoary Roots
Zedoary, also known as white turmeric, is a rhizome with a thin brown skin and a bright orange, hard interior. Its smell is similar to that of turmeric and mango. Zedoary plant is native to India and Indonesia. Since zedoary is anti-inflammatory, its paste is used on inflammation, wounds, skin ailments and pain. The herb serves as a body stimulant and purifies blood. It is very effective in treating respiratory disorders, tones up uterus and works as an aphrodisiac agent. Zedoary improves digestion, improves liver condition and normalizes body temperature.
Psyllium Seeds Psyllium seeds come from a species of plantain (Plantago psyllium) and are an excellent source of insoluble (as well as soluble) fiber. They are the basis of many safe commercial laxatives. You can buy powdered psyllium seed husks at health-food stores without the sweeteners, dyes, and flavors that are added to drugstore products. The only caution about this wonderful remedy for constipation is that it must be used with plenty of water; otherwise the fiber will form an obstructing mass that may add to your problems. |

Basil Seed
Basil has many varieties. It is easy to grow, and transforms ordinary meals into culinary treasures! Fresh basil not only tastes better than dried, it actually tastes different, almost as if it were not the same herb. Basil smells so good, and has such attractive blooms for an herb, that it's also grown in flower gardens as decoration. The blooms are also edible, though if the plant is allowed to bloom regularly its flavor declines.
Senna Pods
Senna or cassia pods, usually refers to seed pods obtained from the Senna Alexandria plant, act as laxatives. Senna is similar to aloe and rhubarb in having as its active ingredients anthraquinone derivatives and their glucosides. Senna pods act to stimulate peristaltic contractions in the colon, and are therefore especially useful in alleviating constipation when taken as a tea. Senna italica is also used like henna to impart a yellow hair colouring
Lotus Seed
Dried lotus seeds that are sold in packages or in bulk at many Asian markets must first be soaked in water overnight prior to use due to their hardness and toughness. They can then be added directly to soups and congee, or used in other dishes. Fresh lotus seeds are sold in the seed heads of the plant and eaten by breaking the individual seeds out of cone shaped head. The soft rubbery shell that surrounds each seed should be removed before consuming.
